How the Elliott rule works

Model stock · made-up numbers
Wave chart of the rule for Model stock, as of Oct 28, 2026 Model: close above the swing high on Day 34 – the rule’s trigger. Fibonacci levels from the start of wave 1 (1) to the high (0). Buy zone (61.8 to 78.6%) 110.70–119.10, invalid on a close below the start of wave 1, Stop 98.00, Targets from the end of wave 2: TP1 (1.618) 194.90, TP2 (6.854) 456.70. Schematic without price history and without a price axis. Then, as a separate line, a possible scenario under our Fibonacci rules, not a forecast: wave 3 as an extended wave up to 361.8% from the end of wave 2 (well above Target 1), wave 4 with a 38.2% retracement, then a shorter wave 5 (61.8% of the distance from the start of wave 1 to the end of wave 3) beyond the end of wave 3. Only the main waves are drawn, vertical scale logarithmic. Model: close above the swing high on Day 34 – the rule’s trigger 0 0.618 (119.10) 0.786 (110.70) 1 (Start W1) Target 1.618 (from end of W2) Target 6.854 (from end of W2) 1 2 today (3) (4) (5) Day 4 Day 18 Day 28 Day 34 possible scenario Model: close above the swing high on Day 34 – the rule’s trigger 0 0.618 0.786 1 Target 1.618(from W2) Target 6.854(from W2) 1 2 today (3) (4) (5) Day 4 Day 18 Day 28 Day 34 Scenario
Green line (3)–(5): a possible scenario under our Fibonacci rules if wave 2 ends here – not a forecast, not investment advice.
Buy zone
110.70–119.10
only after a close above the swing high
Stop
98.00
exit at a loss
Target 1 (TP1)
194.90
partial exit (a quarter)
Target 2 (TP2)
456.70
exit (rest)
Why?

After the rise from 100.00 to 150.00 the price pulled back into the buy zone 110.70–119.10, then formed a swing high and closed above it on Day 34.

  1. Find the trend A strong rise – wave 1 from point 0 to 1. We show the weekly chart for information only – it is not a criterion of the rule (since Oct 10, 2026).
  2. Wait for the buy zone In wave 2 the price pulls back into the buy zone (61.8–78.6% of the rise, here 110.70–119.10). The rule is only triggered by a candle close above the last swing high ; if the price closes below the start of wave 1, the setup is void.
  3. Know the stop and targets Before the entry, the stop (98.00), Target 1 and Target 2 (TP1 194.90, TP2 456.70) are fixed. At Target 1 the rule plans a partial exit (a quarter), then it protects the rest (breakeven, later the wave 1 high). The green line shows how it could continue under our Fibonacci rules: wave 3 runs as an extended wave well beyond Target 1, and after the pullback in wave 4 a shorter wave 5 follows.

Schematic of the analysis – not a price chart. Not investment advice. · How it works

Beginner no prior knowledge

  1. Elliott waves in brief Five waves, three rules that always apply – and where judgment begins. 4 min · not started
  2. Elliott buy zone 61.8–78.6% and entry Where the buy zone based on Elliott wave rules lies – and why its trigger is only a close above the swing high. With a model to play. 5 min · with exercise · not started
  3. Stop and risk Stop below the start of wave 1, the invalidation level and a calculation for position size. 5 min · not started

Intermediate with the basics

  1. Fibonacci Drag a swing – pullback zones and price targets appear by themselves. 4 min · with exercise · not started
  2. Trade management Stop, targets, partial exit and remaining stop – play the rule’s trade and other paths candle by candle. 5 min · with exercise · not started
  3. Corrective patterns: zigzag, flat, triangle How pullbacks are built – recognize zigzag, flat, triangle and combination on the model chart. 6 min · with exercise · not started
  4. Diagonals: leading and ending When wave 4 runs into wave 1: recognize wedge-shaped fives and place them correctly. 5 min · with exercise · not started
  5. Fibonacci targets per wave Waves 2 to 5 and A to C: which distance is measured and where it is placed – with a target calculator. 6 min · with exercise · not started

Advanced for your own tests

  1. Wave degrees: from month to day Count top-down: key fractal, harmony, main and alternative scenario, invalidation level and closing-price principle. 7 min · with exercise · not started
